760.000 Hvis blodsukkeret ikke er velkontrolleret, er personer med diabetes i risiko for at udvikle senkomplikationer som retinopati (diabetisk øjensygdomr), diabetisk fod, hjerteanfald, slagtilfælde, nefropati (diabetisk nyresygdom) og neuropati (nervebetændelse). Disse tilstande påvirker livskvaliteten og forventet levetid negativt. For samfundet er senkomplikationer ved dårligt kontrolleret diabetes omkostningstunge. Ifølge CDC (Center for Disease Control) kostede dårligt kontrolleret diabetes i 2022 USA 413 milliarder USD (direkte og indirekte medicinske omkostninger samt tabte arbejdsfortjeneste).
GluLight gør det meget lettere at kontrollere blodsukkeret. Denne næste generation af kontinuerlige glukosemonitorer (CGM) lover enestående nøjagtighed og brugervenlighed. I modsætning til traditionelle CGM-systemer, der bruger kemiske sensorer til at overvåge glukoseniveauer, anvender GluLight-sensoren en patenteret, banebrydende kombination af fiberoptik og mikrodialyse-teknologi. Denne revolutionerende tilgang bruger infrarødt lys, der reflekteres fra dialysatet inde i mikrodialyseproben, til præcist at måle glukoseniveauer i den interstitielle væske. Derudover har sensoren en forudsigelsesalgoritme, der informerer brugeren om den nødvendige insulintilførsel til enhver tid.
